Diversion is an early intervention program for first-time juvenile offenders, ages 10 to 18, who reside in Cass County. Diversion provides eligible offenders with an alternative to adjudication that emphasizes restorative justice. It reduces the costs and caseload burdens on juvenile courts and the juvenile justice system.
All members of the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe who are referred to the Diversion Program are eligible to participate in the Leech Lake Tribal Restorative Justice Court. This Court identifies Wisdom, Love, Respect, Bravery, Honesty, Humility and Truth as the foundation for "Living the Good Life, Living by our Cultural Values".
