Visit the Candidate Filing website. Candidate information entered into ERS will appear on the Candidate Filings website approximately 30 minutes after entry
Candidate Filing Location
- Federal: Candidates for President and Vice-President, U.S. Senator, and U.S. Representative must file with the Secretary of State.
- State: Candidates for Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, State Auditor, Secretary of State, State Senator, State Representative, and any Judicial office may file with the Secretary of State, or the county auditor of the county in which the candidate resides.
- County: Candidates for County Commissioner, County Auditor, County Treasurer, County Recorder, County Sheriff, County Attorney, Soil and Water Supervisor, and other elected county offices must file with the county auditor.
- City and Township: Candidates for Mayor, Council Member, and other elected city offices must file with the city clerk. Candidates for Town Clerk, Town Supervisor, Town Treasurer, and other elected township offices must file with the town clerk.
- School District: Candidates for School Board Member must file with the school district clerk.
- Special District: Candidates for special districts such as hospitals or park districts should contact the district's office for information on the filing process.

Candidate Filing Fees
If you are filing at Cass County Auditor-Treasurers Office, filing fees may be paid by check or cash (No Credit/Debit cards)
Candidates for Township, City, and School District Offices will file their district clerk.

Campaign Reports
Minnesota Statutes 211A.02, Subdivision 6 requires each local government candidate filing officer to post-campaign financial reports on the local government’s website. The filing officer must post the reports on the website as soon as possible, but no later than 30 days after receipt of the report. The local government must make the reports available on the local government's website for four years from the date the report was posted.
The status of these financial reports for candidates for county elected offices in Cass County:
2018 - No candidates met the threshold for having to file campaign financial reports.
2020 - All candidates have filed campaign financial reports Certificate of Filing. All candidates swear that all campaign contributions or disbursements did not exceed $750 in the calendar year.
